This article is the first in the series about Northern California D1 teams.
San Jose State University (SJSU) owns a 3-20 overall record this season and is winless in the Mountain West Conference at 0-12. The Spartans’ needs are obviously many as Casey Stengel’s infamous quote while managing the inaugural 1962 New York Mets comes to mind: “Can’t anybody here play this game?”
There are 12 scholarship players on the 2017-18 team. Jalen James is the sole graduating senior. Ryan Singer is currently out with a season-ending injury (he’s likely to regain the year of eligibility if he appeals) and redshirted in 2015-16, so he will have spent four years with the team. Because he’s a career reserve, his status for next year is unknown as this team needs so much help. The expectations also are that one of the Spartan point guards will transfer out. That’s one for sure and a possibility of three scholarships available to be filled.
