Gerry Freitas: “San Francisco City College head coach Justin Labagh cuts down the net after his team’s state championship victory over San Diego City College.”
A hearty and well-deserved congratulations goes out to Coach Justin Labagh and his City College San Francisco Rams for winning the state championship. From start to finish, CCSF earned the #1 ranking in northern California and just proved the best from southern California were also no match.
San Francisco began the tournament on Friday with an 86-63 victory over Allan Hancock College. The Rams led 44-36 at the half and wasn’t threatened the rest of the way.
On Saturday, it was an 89-83 win against Cerritos College after leading by a basket at halftime. Coach Labagh’s crew fell back by double digits (13) with eight-and-a-half minutes remaining but regained the lead at the four-and-a-half minute mark.
Sunday brought a Ram one point halftime deficit to San Diego City College but CCSF prevailed in the second 20 minutes as SDCC went icy and then remained at least two possessions in arrears until the final buzzer.
Most recently, City College San Francisco also won the state championship in 2016.
