Report on 2018 Bay Area Memorial Day Classic

The 8th Annual Bay Area Memorial Day Classic was held May 26-28 at Jamtown in Oakland and Ultimate Fieldhouse in Walnut Creek. 64 teams in four divisions (17U Gold, 17U Silver, 16U, 15U) participated. Here is a report on the event. Players are listed alphabetically by last name.

Top Prospects: (*indicates highest consideration)

*6’2 SG Jaden Alexander of Vanden HS 2021 (Lakeshow Black 15u)

High-energy, active wing defender who picks up 94 feet. Tough defender on the ball and can rebound well for his position. Good athlete, will need to add strength to reach his potential. Developing offensive game.

*6’0 SG Callaway Allen of Redwood HS 2020 (NBBA 16u Lloyd)

Versatile shooter with range. Capable penetrator/finisher with both hands, gets to the rim. Good off-ball defender who plays passing lanes well. Knows how to play.

*6’9 PF Jay Allen-Tovar of Valley Christian HS 2019 (Team Lillard 17U)

Elite shot blocker and rebounder. Shows the ability to dribble and lead the fast break. Also shows potential as a solid three-point shooter

Kirby played at Foothill High and San Joaquin Delta College.


“Paulson Adds JC Transfer Austefjord”—Carroll College athletics

Thomas Austefjord is out of Yuba College and Woodcreek High.


Hornet Hoops: “Congratulations to Fr F Ronne Readus and Fr G/F Lance Coleman on the invite to the @jerrydmullen JC camp in July in Kansas City! Both players will be top players in the country!”

Out of St. Mary’s High (Stockton), the 6-foot-6 Coleman played two years ago at Irvine Valley College and averaged 17.9 points plus 7.1 rebounds. Not sure what school, if any, he attend this past season. He is a sophomore athletically.

Jeff Goodman: “Nike gave Marvin Bagley’s dad his own team on the summer circuit for years. Even gave them a berth in the Peach Jam despite the fact they were 0-16 or something like that. And now Bagley (and Ayton, who bounced around the shoe circuits) have signed with Puma.”
