Besides it being an abrupt in-season departure, what’s curious about this announcement is Matt Zenitz, a beat reporter for the Birmingham, Alabama newspaper, was first to post about it. He covers Alabama and Auburn athletics for the newspaper so might Akinjo be heading to one of those SEC schools? Or does he want to get back to northern California?

Seattle University had the spiritual temerity to down Incarnate Word 81-60 as Riley (Archbishop Mitty) Grigsby posted a 22 point, 10 rebound double-double.

Jamaree (Palma High) Bouyea shot 7-11, 1-2, 2-2 on his way to 17 points but host USF fell 71-67 to Arizona State.

Illinois State fell to Texas Christian University 81-69 despite getting 19 points, four boards, three assists and a pair of steal from Zach (Berkeley High/City College San Francisco) Copeland.

Zavier (Rodriguez High) Lucero scored 27 points (shooting 13-15 overall) and grabbed nine rebounds in leading Cal Maritime to a 76-64 success versus UC Santa Cruz. The Keelhaulers record is 9-1.

Kiree (Santa Cruz High) Hutchings shot 5-7 on three point attempts to compile 15 points in John Brown University’s 100-58 victory over Ecclesia. Hutchings also contributed five assists.

Decaurey (Newark Memorial High) Brown scored 32 points for San Jose City College in an 84-69 Jaguar loss to Mendocino.

Chris (Woodcreek High) Cagle provided 29 points and nine boards as American River College bested Solano College 95-89. Dunnell Stafford went for 27 and 13 and teammate Jordan (Vacaville High) Adams 20 plus 11 for SC.


Fresno State fell 81-80 in overtime to UNLV despite getting 18 points from Noah (Woodcreek High/Long Beach State) Blackwell.

Producing 15.4 points, 8.0 boards and 3.0 blocked shots in five games/starts and 25 minutes an outing is senior  Zeke (Stuart Hall) Crawford of Lewis & Clark University. Crawford is shooting 55%, 50% and 55% respectively.

In nine games/eight starts and at 25 minutes a contest, 6-foot-11 freshman Joshua (Sheldon High) Morgan is scoring 9.0 points while grabbing 5.6 rebounds alongside 18 blocked shots for Long Beach State. He is shooting 72% (32-47) plus 59% (13-22) at the foul line.

Senior Sayeed (El Cerrito High) Pridgett is averaging 18.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.3 steals per contest in eight games/starts and 37.0 minutes an outing for Montana. He’s shooting 53%, 29% and 67% respectively.

In eight games, 6-foot-4 freshman point Zyon (College Park High) Pullin is averaging 6.6 points, 3.1 boards and 2.6 assists for UC Riverside while shooting 44%, 41% and 59% respectively. Pullin is playing 22 minutes a contest.

A Brad (Pacific Grove High) Sendell update. The 6-foot-1 junior is shooting 43%, 50% and 85% in three games and 32 minutes a contest at Lawrence University in Wisconsin.
