College Scores and Highlights

Saturday, January 25

Pepperdine downed Portland 80-69 as Skylar (Drake High/Santa Rosa Junior College) Chavez led the Wave with 24 points.

Zach (Berkeley High/City College San Francisco) Copeland finished with 25 points, six boards and three assists but Illinois State fell to Southern Illinois 58-55. He shot 5-7 from three-point range.

Led by 23 points from Eddie (Archbishop Riordan/City College San Francisco) Stansberry, Hawaii edged UC Davis 76-75. The Aggies were paced by freshman guard Ezra (Heritage High) Manjon who finished with team highs of 22 points, six assists and five boards.

Powered by 18 points plus 11 rebounds from AJ (San Leandro High/Sheridan College) Bramah, Robert Morris edged Long Island University 71-66.

Jamaree (Palma High) Bouyea totaled 23 points, five boards, four assists and three steals in the USF 83-82 success versus BYU. Bouyea shot 10-15 overall, 3-6 from long distance.

21 points via Souley (Oakland Tech/USF) Boum aided the UTEP cause but the Miners still fell 67-57 to North Texas.

Luke (Vista Del Lago High) Advalovic’s career-high 25 points helped power Northern Arizona to an 84-82 defeat of Portland State. He shot 7-11 from beyond the stripe.

Sayeed (El Cerrito High)  Pridgett scored 33 points and grabbed eight boards but Montana fell 87-75 in overtime to Weber State.

Micah (Lick-Wilmerding) Elan provided 18 points plus six assists in Pomona-Pitzer’s 87-73 loss to Occidental.

Tyrell (Woodcreek High) Roberts led UC San Diego with 23 points (5-5 from long distance) in the Triton 92-57 bopping of Sonoma State. A 52-23 initial half broke open the pairing.

Darne (St. Joseph Notre Dame) Duckett led the victors with both 24 points and six assists in Whitman’s 99-82 takedown of Linfield College. The latter was led by Dempsey (Redwood High) Roggenbuck’s 27 points.

Amil Moreau Catholic) Fields posted a 17 point, 10 rebound double-double and Milton (Bullard High) Burnett also tallied 17 in the College of the Sequoias 84-65 beating of Porterville College.

Fresno City College overcame a 41-31 halftime deficit in downing host Reedley College 79-71. Keshawn (Burbank High/Cal State East Bay) Bruner led with both 24 points and eight boards. He shot 9-11 overall.

Malik (Jesuit High) Duffy provided a team-leading 21 points plus eight rebounds in Chico State’s 87-62 defeat of Cal State Los Angeles.

The Cal Maritime men’s basketball team got another huge game from forward Zavier Lucero and the Keelhaulers beat host Embry-Riddle 62-54 on Saturday in Prescott, Ariz.

Lucero, a 6-foot-6 junior from Rodriguez High, finished with 16 points, 16 boards and four assists for the Keelhaulers. He also hit four 3-pointers.

Josh Hauser had 15 points on 5 of 12 shooting and also hit four 3-pointers. Evan Madill had 10 points and hit three 3-pointers and Matthew Essien had five boards.

Cal Maritime shot just 37.3 percent from the field but the Keelhaulers hit nine 3-pointers.”

Shasta 87 Redwoods 76

The College of the Redwoods men’s basketball team, winners of 12 straight going into Saturday’s Golden Valley Conference road game at Shasta, failed to score at least 80 points for the first time in 12 games en route to an 87-76 loss.

On the year Redwoods is 4-4 when it scores less than 80 points and 13-0 when it scores north of 80.

Redwoods (17-4, 4-1) remains atop the GVC after the loss and still controls its own destiny. Redwoods can ensure a conference title if it wins its final five conference games.

Drew Gillette led Redwoods with 23 points including five 3-pointers. Thomas Nelson chipped in 15 while both Isaac Puzz and Donald Willis finished with 11.”

Friday, January 24

Santa Rosa Junior College defeated Folsom Lake College 76-51 as 6-foot-8 freshman  Edward (Foothill High-Bakersfield) Turner finished with 21 points.

Izayah (Sacramento High) Talmadge provided 16 points plus seven boards but Chabot College fell 61-60 to host Foothill College.

Last Thursday, Hope International fell to Westmont College 84-78 despite Jonah (Willow Glen High/San Jose City College/UC Davis) Underwood providing 19 points plus five rebounds and teammate Josh (Lighthouse Community Charter High/Orange Coast College) Powell-Davis stuffing the stats sheet with 15 points, nine assists and six boards.

Also last Thursday, Menlo College rang up 102 points to 85 for Arizona Christian as Ross (Bishop O’Dowd) Williams came close to a triple double for the victors with 19 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.

Another Thursday matchup had Cal Maritime topping Benedictine 82-66 behind 20 points and 15 boards from Zavier (Rodriguez High) Lucero.
