UC Santa Cruz hoops news: “Haakon Ullrich was named the ACAA Defensive Player of the Year in a vote of the league’s coaches as announced on Tuesday.

The junior center averaged 9.5 points and 6.2 rebounds in providing a physical presence in the paint. He also averaged 0.5 blocks a game and entered the school’s career top ten.

Freshman post player Avri (Albany High) Finch was named the league’s Rookie of the Year and was named to All-League Second Team. He led the Banana Slugs with 14.3 points and 6.9 rebounds.

Patrick (Mt. Eden High) Ramos was named to the league’s First Team. The junior guard averaged 13.8 points and 3.6 assists this season, becoming the seventh Banana Slug in program history to tally over 200 assists.

In 50 minutes, Jordan (Folsom High) Ford produced 42 points in the St. Mary’s 89-82 double overtime success versus Pepperdine. The Gaels are now in the West Coast Conference semi-finals.

Souley (Oakland Tech/USF) Boum finished with 25 points, five rebounds and four assists as UTEP cooked Rice 77-72.

AJ Bramah contributed 18 points plus five boards and two blocks as Robert Morris handled Long Island University 86-66 in a Northeast Conference tournament semi-final.

California was bopped by Oregon State 78-56 although Paris (Bishop O’Dowd/Boise State) Austin posted an 18 point, five rebound, three assist, three steal line.

Tyrell (El Cerrito High/Merritt College) Alcorn shot 6-9 from three-point range for 18 points but Dillard fell 82-78 to Xavier (LA).

UC San Diego downed Cal Poly Pomona 78-62 to win the CCAA tournament championship. On Friday, the Tritons won 86-82 on Friday against Cal State East Bay as Tyrell (Woodcreek High) Roberts scored 45 (!!!!!) points based on amazing 16-21 overall shooting, a beyond en fuego 10-12 from three-point range plus 3-3 at the foul line.

Eddie (Archbishop Riordan/City College San Francisco) Stansberry exploded for 31 points in Hawaii’s fall to Cal State Northridge.

Joshua (Sierra High) Patton posted a 13 point, nine board, three blocked shot line in Sacramento State’s 76-72 road loss to Portland State.

Micah (Lick-Wilmerding) Elan tallied 20 points in Pomona-Pitzer’s 71-70 victory versus Emory. The Sagehens are now in the NCAA Sweet 16. On Friday, Pomona-Pitzer bested Centre 84-64 as Elan provided 23 points, five boards, three assists and a pair of steals.

The Nor Cal CCCAA ranks

Santa Rosa Junior College edged host Columbia College 69-65 as Gianni Brown led with 19 points and 10 boards and Edward (Foothill High-Bakersfield) Turner played big with 14 and 10. Seth Coddington’s 28 points paced Columbia.

Visiting College of the Sequoias nabbed a 71-69 victory versus Yuba College thanks to a 45-28 second half. For the victors, Ryan (Hanford High) Johnson scored 22 points, Tiyon Martin 17 and Elihu Cobb enjoyed a 13 point, 14 rebound double-double alongside four blocked shots. Teammate Tiveon (Selma High) Stroud produced 11, 10 and four. Brandon (Clovis West High) Recek tallied 22 points and 11 boards for Yuba.

Host Fresno City College took care of Mendocino 97-61 powered in large part by Keshawn (Burbank High/Cal State East Bay) Bruner’s 28 points. He shot 10-13, 3-5 and 5-8 respectively.

City College San Francisco had no trouble downing visiting College of the Redwoods 108-64.
