Lee Hubbard III, the 6-foot-1 point guard from Riordan High School in San Francisco, California, has decided to reclassify from the 2021 class to the 2022 graduating class.

“After a long talk with family members, I have decided to reclassify to the class of 2022 based on the uncertainty of the high school basketball season, as a result of Covid 19 situation taking place,” said Hubbard.

Hubbard was a key cog in Riordan’s 2020 run, which helped the West Catholic Athletic League team go 23-5, win the WCAL title and make it to the Division I Norcal semi-finals, before the team’s season ended due to covid 19. He was the starting point guard, on a three headed guard led team, which also featured 2020 graduates Bryce Monroe (Sam Houston State) and Jelani Clark (Nevada).

He is one of three starters back to lead a rejuvenated Riordan team, which should be one best high school teams in California. Other starers include, Mohr Seck , A 7 foot-1 class of 2022 big, who was just offered by Kansas University and Robert Vaihola, a 6-foot-8 2021 power forward, who is seeing mid major interest. Joining these three are transfer King Willhite, a 5-11 2023 guard, who was all state as freshmen and 2024 wing Zion Sensley, a 6-foot-6 versatile player, who is a top 40 player nationally in 2024.

Hubbard said the high school basketball season, which was postponed to the spring of 2021, is going to proceed, he feels very positive about Riordan’s basketball season. He is even more encouraged by his recruitment, He was hearing from some low and mid major Division I schools. With this reclassification, he hopes to rejuvenate the schools looking for a 2022 point guard.

He is interested in collegiate programs that further develop players, play a fast paced brand of basketball and values guard play. He feels the extra year, will help him. He has played in the shadows the past two years behind and then beside two other Division I guards.

“Once the season ended in March, I started hitting the weights, working on my body,” said Hubbard. “I gained 15 pounds since March. I really been in the gym working on my game and improving my 3-point range.”

Hubbard is an old school traditional point guard, who is strong getting to the basket and making plays for others. Last year, at Riordan, he was the team’s primary perimeter defender, and had several breakout games for the Crusaders. On the young side in the class of 2021, he will be a 2021 qualifier, but with his reclassifying to the class of 2022, he is leaving his options open for the present and future.
