Benedictine University Mesa (AZ) sports a pair of Nor Cal junior college transfers on its 2020-21 roster:

“Deion Ellis is a 6’6 forward joining the RedHawks from Oakland, California. Ellis graduated from McClymonds High School where he was named Oakland Athletic League Player of the Year as a senior after averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds per game.

As a true freshman Ellis attended Canada College in California, the forward helped his team to a 24-7 record by averaging 5.1 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.

After transferring to Gavilan College as a sophomore, the versatile forward stepped up his game by averaging 10.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in leading the Rams to a 27-3 record. Ellis will be a junior in the fall and will be majoring in psychology.

Savion Johnson, a 6’6 wing from Hanford, California, will join the Redhawks as in incoming junior. The rising junior graduated from Hanford High School and then spent the last two seasons playing for the College of the Sequoias.

While at COS Johnson was instrumental in leading the Giants to two very successful seasons. As a freshman Johnson helped COS to a record of 22-9. Taking a step as a sophomore, Johnson led the Giants to 24-6 record while averaging 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists. Defensively, Johnson regularly defended the opposing team’s best player and contributed 1.5 steals and nearly 1 block per game.”
