Freshman center Joshua (Sheldon High) Morgan provided 11 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots in 29 minutes during visiting Long Beach State’s 87-76 loss to USC.
City College San Francisco blasted San Joaquin Delta College 102-63.
Stanislaus State handled San Francisco State University 79-62.
Saturday
Jordan (Folsom High) Ford was ‘en fuego’—32 points on 10-14, 2-3, 10-11 shooting—as St. Mary’s jumped out to a 45-29 halftime lead before defeating host California 89-77. Sophomore Andre Kelly led the Bears with 28 points on 8-11, 0-1, 10-11 accuracy.
De’jon (Oakland Tech) Davis provided a 16 point (shooting 7-7), 13 rebound double-double as California Baptist turned away Bethune-Cookman 87-68.
Ross (Bishop O’Dowd) Williams supplied 22 points as the Menlo Oaks took down Hope International 86-78.
Avri (Albany High) Finch and Patrick (Mt. Eden High) Ramos scored 18 points apiece as UC Santa Cruz bested Cal Tech 63-60. Finch also added 12 boards.
In what had to be the game of the night, Fresno City College edged Mendocino College 109-106 in double overtime. Keshawn (Burbank High/Cal State East Bay) Brunner shot 12-19, 0-1, 12-13 to finish with 36 points and added nine caroms.
Quincy (Clovis West High/San Jose State University) Urbina finished with a team high 19 points (plus seven boards) as City College San Francisco handled Butte College 106-53.
Cosumnes River College topped Hartnell College 85-74 as Dillon (Franklin High) Iyawe loomed large with 23 points and 14 boards for CRC.

Powered by Micah (Lick-Wilmerding) Elan’s 18 points, 10 boards, seven assists and three steals, Pomona-Pitzer downed Westcliff University 83-66.
A 57-22 initial half carried Chico State to a 113-69 homecourt win over Cal State Monterey Bay. Malik (Jesuit High) Duffy led with 22 points and Justin (River City High) Briggs posted a 13 point, 13 rebound double-double. Plus, Joshua (Central Catholic High) Hamilton shot 5-5 from three-point range to finsih with 20 points.
City College San Francisco scored 55 points in both the first and second session inmore than doubling up on Sierra College 110-53. Miles Norris led with 21 points, Nate (Las Lomas High/South Dakota) Robinson tallied 18 and Ezekiel (Lincoln High) Holman contributed 17.
Dominic (Evergreen Valley High) Simpkins led with 28 points and seven rebounds and DeAnza College handled Reedley 83-75.
Ronald (Sheldon High) Agebsar led with both 16 points and seven boards as Fresno City College handled Modesto Junior College 92-70.

Chabot Gladiator Basketball: “Your (8-1) Gladiators took the trip to Sacramento and defeated the American River College Beavers 83-73. It was a team effort on the court and on the bench! Question: What is wrong with Terrell Brown?
“I get this question on a weekly basis, and unfortunately I don’t have any profound answer other than he simply isn’t making shots. Brown has been dealing with a strained groin all season, which is well documented at this point, but that only explains so much.
There’s an advanced stat called effective field goal percentage that is the same as regular field goal percentage, but made three-pointers are given 50% more credit since they’re worth 50% more points than a two-point shot.
According to Kenpom.com, Brown had an effective field goal percentage of 55.4 percent last season. This season, that has gone down to 26.9 percent, which is the lowest on the team by 6.4 percent (Robert Brown is at 33.3 percent).
It’s not like the opportunities haven’t been there, though.
Kenpom shows that Terrell Brown is being used on 18.9 percent of possessions compared to 21 percent last season, which isn’t a significant difference. New Mexico State head coach Chris Jans is still drawing up plays for the senior guard, as he said after Tuesday’s win against UTEP.
“I’m running plays for Terrell Brown down the stretch,” Jans said. “If you look at his numbers, you’re like ‘Why are you doing that?’ But I have confidence in him. I know who he is as a player. Eventually, he’s gonna start making some shots, and that’ll make us a lot better.”
I’m sure I’ll continue to get this question from people as long as Brown continues to struggle, but there’s not much else to say.
He’s still being involved in the offense. He’s still getting good looks. He just isn’t making them.”
Brown’s numbers: 9 games, 26 minutes a contest, shooting 13-65 (overall), 9-52 (threes) and 8-12 (free throws) respectively, 4.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 15 assists, 18 turnovers, six steals. The previous incarnation of Brown had him going to the hoop much more plus drawing more fouls (134 foul shots in 34 games). He also had a lesser percentage of three-point attempts last season. His injury must be a big factor.
